「いのち輝く未来社会のデザイン」をテーマに掲げ、2025年4月から10月まで大阪・夢洲にて開催された「2025年日本国際博覧会（大阪・関西万博）」。映画作家の河瀬直美氏がテーマ事業プロデューサーを務めたシグネチャーパビリオン『Dialogue Theater - いのちのあかし -』において、展示企画のディレクションを担当した。
京都府福知山市と奈良県十津川村の2つの廃校となった校舎を移築・再利用し、「いのちを守る」をテーマに対話を通じて、世界の至るところにある「分断」を明らかにし、その解決を試みる。来館者には184日毎日違う「問いかけ」を用意し、観客の中から代表して選ばれた1人と、画面に映し出された世界のどこかにいるもう1人が、10分間の逃げ場のない対話を行う。そして、この対話には台本も筋書きもない。一期一会で発生する唯一無二の対話。話者は、対話をしているうちに喜怒哀楽さまざまな感情がうまれ、思わずそれを吐露してしまう。それを見た観客がどう分断を理解し、後世へと繋いでいくかという実験である。
The 2025 Japan International Exposition (Osaka-Kansai Expo), held from April to October 2025 in Osaka's Yumeshima, adopted the theme “Designing a Future Society Where Life Shines.” I directed the exhibition planning for the Signature Pavilion ‘Dialogue Theater - The Proof of Life -’, where filmmaker Naomi Kawase served as Theme Project Producer. The pavilion relocated and repurposed two former school buildings—one from Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture, and one from Totsukawa Village, Nara Prefecture. Centered on the theme of “Protecting Life,” it aimed to reveal the ‘divisions’ existing throughout the world through dialogue and attempt to resolve them. Visitors encounter a different “question” each day for 184 days. One representative selected from the audience engages in a 10-minute, inescapable dialogue with another person projected on screen, located somewhere in the world. There is no script or predefined storyline. It is a unique, one-time-only dialogue born from a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. As the conversation unfolds, the speakers experience a range of emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure—and often find themselves expressing them spontaneously. This is an experiment in how the audience perceives these divisions and how they might be passed on to future generations.
