LEDの光の明滅をテーマにした、アーティストとしての佐藤個人のインスタレーション作品。
ニュージーランドなど南半球のごく一部に生息するツチボタル(グローワーム)は、洞窟の天井に張り付き青白い光を発光し、虫を誘き寄せて粘液で絡め取り捕食する。彼らの発光現象は、音や振動などの外的な刺激により一斉に光を放ち、地上の星空と例えられることがある。本作品は、そのツチボタルをオマージュした。各個体が神経伝達物質によって互いに同調連携できていたらと仮定し、周囲の仲間同士で呼応し合う姿を、天吊りしたLEDと制御機器によって、作品に落とし込んだ。人が近接したり、音を発することで光が互いに明滅し合う。
The installation piece by artist Sato, themed around the flickering of LED light.Glowworms, found only in very limited areas of the Southern Hemisphere like New Zealand, cling to cave ceilings, emitting a pale blue light to lure insects, which they then trap and consume with their sticky mucus. Their bioluminescence phenomenon, triggered by external stimuli like sound or vibration, causes them to emit light simultaneously, sometimes likened to the starry sky above. This work pays homage to the glowworms. It hypothesizes that if each individual could synchronize and coordinate with others through neurotransmitters, they would respond to their surroundings. This concept is realized in the piece using suspended LEDs and control devices. When people approach or make sounds, the lights flicker in response to each other.
