A new exhibition zone, "Touching the Sound," was renovated in 2021 at NIFREL, a living museum in Osaka. In this work, 16 speakers are used to fill the entire space with sound through three-dimensional acoustics, creating an experience that allows visitors to feel the differences in the diversity of each organism through sound.
The sound effects are based on the four environments of forests, satoyama, oceans, and cities, such as the murmuring of rivers, the sound of the wind, and the hustle and bustle of the city, as well as the breathing, cries, and footsteps of animals in their habitats. As for the visual effects, abstract projection mapping with colors that reflect the image of each environment is performed on threads that radiate from the ceiling, creating a space where visitors can concentrate more on the sound and become immersed. The aim was to create a space where visitors could concentrate on the sound and immerse themselves in it. In addition, we aimed to create an exhibition where visitors could "touch the crackle" by bathing their entire body in the subtle vibrations emitted from the speakers.
