葛飾北斎の「北斎漫画」をテーマにしたインスタレーション作品。葛飾北斎はその88年間の生涯の中で、本人が「描いても描いても上手くならない」と自己評価をしていた。北斎自身が四季を通じ苦悩しながらも延々と描き続けるストーリーを、何層にも重ねた和紙で構成された構造体に投射した。北斎漫画から四季折々の風物詩をピックアップした場面と、北斎のその絵ひとつひとつの表情や描写の豊かさをストップモーションのように時間を切り取ったかのようなイメージとで、手付けのアニメーションという形で現代的に表現した。
This is an installation work based on Hokusai Katsushika's "Hokusai Manga". During the 88 years of his life, Katsushika Hokusai himself commented that he never got any better at drawing. The story of Hokusai himself, which he endlessly drew while struggling through the four seasons, was projected onto a structure composed of layers of Japanese paper. The work is a contemporary expression in the form of a hand-painted animation with scenes of seasonal poems from Hokusai's manga, and images of the richness of expression and description in each of his paintings, as if they were cut out of time like stop motion.
